On this day, January 19, 1876, illustrator Frank X. Leyendecker was born in Montabaur, Germany. In 1882 the Leyendecker family emigrated to the United States and settles in Chicago. In 1896 Frank along with his older brother J. C. Leyendecker studied in Paris. A year after they returned in 1898, the brothers were living in New York and making a name for themselves for their illustrations.
