On this day, August 29, 1950, illustrator Dan Sayre Groesbeck died in Los Angeles, California. Mostly a self-taught artist, Groesbeck went to work as an illustrator for the Los   Angeles Morning Herald. He lived for a time in San Francisco and travelled widely, but came back to L.A. He taught at the Chouinard Art Institute and created scene paintings for Cecil B. DeMille.
