On this day, May 22, 1985, Wolfgang Reitherman, the German-American Disney animator, director and producer died in Burbank, California. Reitherman began working for Disney in 1934 and eventually became Disney’s chief animation director. In 1969 he won the Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film for Winnie the Pooh and the Blustery Day.
