On this day, May 15, 2006, pin-up illustrator Joyce Ballantyne died in Ocala, Florida. Best known as the designer of the Coopertone girl. After studies at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and the American Academy of Art, Ballantyne worked in illustration. Eventually she joined the group of illustrators painting pin-ups for Brown & Bigelow calendars and portraits.
