On this day, May 13, 1900, illustrator Fred Ludekens was born in Hueneme, California. He began working as a billboard painter and eventually made his way to New York to work as an illustrator. By 1945 he was back in San Francisco and producing cover illustrations, story and advertising illustrations for all the major magazines.
