On this day, March 28, 1930, author and illustrator Barbara Ninde Byfield was born in Abilene, Texas. Byfield studied at the University of Wyoming and at the Art Students League of New York. She began writing and illustrating books in the 1960s including a series of stories for young readers about a spy, Hannibel Stern, who is haunted by a 400 year old ghost.
