On this day, July 8, 1962, illustrator George Watson Barratt died in New York City. Barratt studied at the Chase School of Art in New York and then with Howard Pyle in Wilmington, Delaware. In addition to producing illustrations for publications, Barratt also painted murals, and was a stage designer and theatrical art director who worked on over 1,000 productions.
