On this day, July 17, 1998, Lillian Hoban died. Born in Philadelphia she attended the Philadelphia Museum School of Art following which she danced with the Martha Graham troupe and taught modern dance. After marriage to writer Russell Hoban she began to write her own stories and learned to draw. Their children’s story books continue to be popular.
