On this day, December 21, 1996, co-author and illustrator Margret Rey died in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Born in Hamburg, Germany, Rey studied art at the Bauhaus in Dessau and then at the Kunstakademie in Dusseldorf and at the University of Munich. She went to Rio de Janerio to escape Nazism and there met and married Hans Rey. Together they created their most famous character, Curious George.
