On this day, August 15, 1900, illustrator and western artist Harold Dow Bugbee was born in Lexington, Massachusetts. Bugbee began illustrating western stories with ink sketches in the 1930s after his art training at the Cumming School of Art in Des Moines, Iowa. In 1951 Bugbee became the part-time curator of the Panhandle-Plains Historical Society while he continued to create art.
