On this day, November 10, 1878,died in New York. Born in England and trained as an architect, Waud came to America and began working for Frank Leslie’s Illustrated Newspaper as a staff illustrator. In 1864 Waud went to work for Harper’s. Many of his field sketches done during the Civil are in the collection of The Library of Congress.
